The Orchestra of St Paul's presents two favourite works of the piano repertoire performed in sparkling chamber arrangements for 11 players by Wolfgang Renz. Whereas Mussorgsky's colourful Pictures at an Exhibition was composed as a memorial to the artist Victor Hartmann, Ravel's beautiful, delicate Tombeau is not only an hommage to his musical predecessor but a tribute to friends who had died in service during the First World War. These joyous works are joined by Ibert's 1935 Concerto for Alto Saxophone and 11 players, featuring acclaimed soloist Hannah Marcinowicz ("A superb young saxophonist", The Times).
